Note on Peruvian elections

The victory of teacher and trade unionist Pedro Castillo in the Peruvian presidential election puts a brake on the specter of the corrupt and authoritarian right led by candidate Keiko Fujimori.

For the first time in many years, a candidate from the popular camp wins the presidential elections in Peru. The process took place without disturbing citizen participation, despite the media dramatization campaigns attempted by the candidate of the economic oligarchy and daughter of former dictator Alberto Fujimori.

We salute the Peruvian people and hope that this election will pave the way for full democratization, an economic policy of solidarity and an urgent and humanistic response in terms of public health and anti-covid vaccination.
